So we are finally moved onto the farmstead full time! The house is about 95% finished, and a lot has transpired in the past few weeks.
We had big plans, oh did we. We were going to do a large eighteen panel solar array and be off-grid as far as electricity goes. We would save approximately 10k over having grid power run back to the house and reap some tax advantages as well. Things started out really well, our old house sold in a day at more than the asking price. The actual process of inspections and appraisals went smoothly and we closed, and the very next day we found out my wife had to have open heart surgery!
The surgery was done one week later and 14 days before we had to vacate our old house. Did I mention that all of the solar equipment was on backorder till July? Did I mention the weather forecast was slated in the 90’s? I would like to personally thank Buckeye Rural Electric CO-OP for getting us from survey, to grid power in under two weeks. This is normally a month-long process, but once I explained our situation, they dove in and got us electrified.
In the meantime, with the help of friends and neighbors we moved a 15 foot U-Haul with the heavy stuff, and I single-handedly moved 33 pickup loads and another Uhaul as well (23 years of STUFF). It was a mad dash to box and move things and I am sure we will still be sorting it all out in 10 years.
Meanwhile, we have gotten the first 3 beehives established and continue to press on to live a quieter and closer to God’s creation existence, we like to think this ordeal is just another of his tests to make us stronger. Stay with us as we unpack and soon a look inside our Amish-built home.
