Hello my friends! We are still here and have been tied up with more perils of homesteading life. We had the worst drought that Southern Ohio has seen in a century or more. This caused the loss of many of the pine trees we planted in the first year we owned the farmstead, at one point our pond was low by 3 feet!. Thankfully we are having an average fall with some normal Ohio rain.
We have both been dealing with continuing health issues and pretty much recovering from the stress of summers events. Wed did manage to get our new driveway (much less steep) in and a few other small projects. We plan to sit by the fire and just relax for the winter. I might do a bit of squirrel hunting.
We have to following projects coming up in late winter or early spring.
- Greenhouse #1 12x24ft post frame or shed type.
- Fencing project #1 Approx 1/3 ac around the longhouse in preparation for #3
- DOG! We are on the waiting list for a Border Collie pup!
- Fencing Project #2 4AC Pasture for///
- Scottish cows! We plan to add 2 cows in the summer or fall!
- Chickens, just a few for our own needs
Bigger Tractor, this will be 25 or 26 depending on how the day job goes but we need a bucket and more power!
Outdoors/Bushcraft stuff
I am venturing back into an old hobby of “Experimental Archeology ” which is sort of like historical reenacting except the goal is to recreate and experince the skills and equipment of a specific historical period instead of just dressing the part and having “battles” in historical forts and other locations. The goal of this will to be honing my primitive and early colonial skills. My focus will be two fold, the Viking period 800-1100AD and the early colonial American period Pre 1780AD. I hope to bring these forays to Patreon or Youtube.
As always check back and see how winter and spring go here at Valhalla.
