We had planned to be on the property full-time by mid-summer, however, life has gotten in the way as usual. I am slowly progressing on the “Cabin” portion of our barn. This is about 220sq ft of living space to use on extended stays and as the house is eventually built. Once the farmhouse is done it will become part of the meadery! That’s correct, Valhalla Farmstead will have a commercial Meadery and greenhouse operation (on a small scale). This is our plan for a small retirement income and has been a dream for several decades. We hope to start installing bees next spring.
In the meantime, we just finished the beautiful pine ceiling in the cabin, and are now prepping for the bathroom wall and water line (County water is available and Ohio’s Food/AG rules make a commercial mead operation much easier on a county or city water supply. We also planted half a dozen elderberry bushes including Viking Aronia (Of course). And planted them again after something plucked each out of the ground….more on that as events develop.
We spent Saturday morning at the Athens Farmers Market, scoping out one of our future selling opportunities. Brought back a bottle of Wolftree Blueberry Mead which shall be reviewed here shortly. If you are in Southeast Ohio we highly recommend that market, it’s a great vibe and lots of cool people and products! I will sign off with a few pics from the past week!
